The above statement is particularly appropriate to many people who come to our clinic. They've been everywhere else trying to find a solution to their health problem. Sometimes this leaves them in a high level of skepticism and doubt when they walk through our modest portals. So the question they usually have is, what can we offer them that they haven't already tried?

We assess your health challenges and, through consultation, develop your own personalized plan for improvement. Taking the first step to freedom from poor health may not always be easy or free from discomfort. However, it can be the most rewarding of journeys.

For many of our patients we recommend Chinese herbs to increase energy and stimulate better health. Based on 4,000 years of studies, herbal formulas provide strong remedies to different levels within the body, mind, and spirit. These amount to individual solutions for individual problems. As a Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine (DTCM) Joel Whitehead is a fully trained practicioner experienced in the types and application of Oriental Herbs.

We use some very powerful treatments at the The Lakelands Acupuncture & Chinese Herbal Centre clinic, one of them being Thermal Point Therapy. Nesshi, as it is called in its native Japanese, uses the power of localized heat and cold to invigorate and force the body to resume healing itself long after the body has adjusted to life in an unacceptable state. Though not particularly comfortable, the redirection of energy is apparent by the time the treatment is over and continues to do its work long after the treatment ends.

Energetics is the Key

Oriental Medicine is a system of individualized energetics that looks at the nature within each of us and seeks to return us to that state of balance. We are each a unique entity and the way we come into our own particular state is highly individualized. So why would we believe that our own pattern of ill health would be the same as another person's simply because the syndrome attached has the same name?

The Answer is at the Root

At The Lakelands Acupuncture & Chinese Herbal Centre our patients arrive with many different types of maladies. Often these are actually extensions of real problems that run much deeper than what we observe on the surface.

When the abnormality, pain, or malfunction becomes an issue at work or home, this is a message to us: what is out of balance, and what is the root of this imbalance?

We may find that the real cause is a single source or a whole lifetime of sources. It may result from physical, mental, or lifestyle issues and habits.

From experience we know that the imbalance suffered now will only increase and create more suffering until this imbalance is resolved.

Our holistic approach to treatments considers not only the obvious problems, but also the more challenging roots to the problem. Our goal is not to 'fix' you but to cure you with lifelong changes that keep you on the road to good health.

Joel Whitehead, DTCM

Joel Whitehead, Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine, has studied oriental medicine for the past ten years in Japan, Korea, Sri Lanka, and Victoria, BC.

Health issues have been a driving force in Joel's life since problems he incurred himself in his twenties forced him to start looking for answers.

He believes it is important to enlist the cooperation of the patient in the healing process; even empowering his patients to take responsibility and make choices for the direction their health will take.
